My Wheaten Terrier has been taking 200 mg of 98 0r 99% pure resveratrol daily mixed in her food since whe was 8. She is now 11. She had been starting to develop arthritis, it put a stop to that. She moves as well as a young dog, and is more vigorous than most dogs her age, though she sleeps more than when younger. She is developing cataracts, apparently resveratrol does not prevent their development She gets a clean bill of health from the vet. The only negative effect was increased stool, soft stool when we started her on resveratrol; after a few weeks that disappeared.

Dr. Manuel Serrano (from Spain) is reporting at meetings that his SIRT1 super mouse (with 3x higher SIRT1 levels) is highly resistant to carcinogen-induced DNA damage and liver cancer.

Did you see the latest colon cancer study on mice? Dog and cat owners, pay attention. Looks like resveratrol works on metastasis, not just tumor initiation.

Ive read on-line that people have stopped cancer in its tracks by feeding dogs a gram of resveratrol a day. The supplement is called . Labradors have also been put on calorie restriction, which seemed to do them wonders but could be cruel.

pubmed search: labrador caloric restriction
"This report reviews decade two of the lifetime diet restriction study of the dog. Labrador retrievers (n 48) were paired at age 6 weeks by sex and weight within each of seven litters, and assigned randomly within the pair to control-feeding (CF) or 25 % diet restriction (DR). Feeding began at age 8 weeks. The same diet was fed to all dogs; only the quantity differed. Major lifetime observations included 1.8 years longer median lifespan among diet-restricted dogs, with delayed onset of late life diseases, especially osteoarthritis."

Anecdotally, some people who give resveratrol supplements to their dogs have reported that their dogs are leaner, more alert, and have more energy. There are also unvalidated reports on the web that resveratrol has slowed down or even stopped the growth of cancer in their dog. There is now a resveratrol supplement specifically for dogs.
Has anyone experienced negative or positive effects in their pets?
